Live EPC Technology Demonstrations
EPC Connection is all about helping companies leverage Electronic Product Code (EPC) technologies, and the education and learning goes beyond just listening to presentations. We incorporate opportunities to see real-world demonstrations of EPC in action.EPC Connection 2007 will feature a demonstration area on the exhibit hall floor, hosted by the RFID Research Center at the University of Arkansas, one of the leading applied RFID research centers in the United States. Below, you will find a description of some of the demonstrations the university will provide, which will give attendees a unique opportunity to see EPC technologies in action.
How to Comply with Tagging Requirements
If you are under a mandate, will soon be required to tag shipments for a customer, or have decided to begin tagging voluntarily, this demonstration will show you how to comply with tagging requirements. One requirement many customers have is that tags be read as they move through portals or on conveyors. Learning to place a tag in the proper location on a case or pallet of a specific product is critical to achieving consistently high read rates. Conversely, you will also see how placing the tag in the wrong location dramatically reduces readability. The use of specialized software to determine the best tag location, as well as general rules-of-thumb for finding the best spot, will be demonstrated and discussed.
Testing in an Accredited Lab
Many companies have turned to labs accredited by EPCglobal to determine the correct tags and proper placement on their products, to ensure they comply with customer requirements. In this demonstration, researchers from the accredited RFID Research Center at the University of Arkansas will walk through a series of tests they perform, explaining why such tests are performed so attendees can understand how to comply with tagging requirements.
Reading Cases on A Pallet
One way companies can achieve internal benefits while complying with customer mandates is to employ EPC tags to improve shipping accuracy and automatically generate advance shipping notices. In this demonstration, you will see how tags can be read as a pallet is being built, as well as how the tags can be read to confirm the cases stacked on a pallet match the purchase order. Moreover, researchers will explain some key issues involved in setting up a portal, as well as where the reader stands should go, whether you should use overhead readers, and more.
Tagging Individual Items
Many companies believe the real benefits of EPC will come when they can tag individual items, but they worry that they won't be able to achieve high read rates when large numbers of individual items are grouped closely together. In this demonstration, you will see how individual items can be tagged and read successfully, and researchers will discuss some of the challenges of tagging individual items and the use cases.
