Daniel W. Caprio, Jr., is a senior fellow and president of The Progress & Freedom Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Caprio served as acting assistant secretary for technology policy and chief privacy officer for the Department of Commerce. While at the Department of Commerce, he oversaw all departmental activities related to the development and implementation of federal privacy laws, policies and practices. He served as co-chairman of the Federal Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Council, and as chairman of the Department of Commerce RFID Working Group. Mr. Caprio has held a range of staff positions in the U.S. Congress and state government, including a chief-of-staff position to Federal Trade Commisioner Orson Swindle, working as principal technology policy advisor.
