Sep 18, 2014The International RFID Institute, a not-for-profit organization founded to promote professionalism in the RFID industry through standardized certification examinations, announced today that it will hold an RFID Certified Associates exam in London on Oct. 23, in conjunction with RFID Journal LIVE! Europe 2014.
The institute was founded in 2012 by a group of industry professionals (see International RFID Institute Prepares Certification Program and A New RFID Certification). The first RFID Certified Associate exam took place on Apr. 8-9 at the RFID Journal LIVE! 2014 conference and exhibition, held in Orlando, Fla. A total of 41 individuals sat for the test. The 18 who received passing grades represent a pass rate of 44 percent.
The exam replaces CompTIA's RFID+ certification exam, which was withdrawn from the market in 2011 (see Why the RFID Industry Needs a Certification Program). The RFID Institute's version is designed to demonstrate that a certificate holder is knowledgeable about all types of RFID technology, including passive low-frequency (LF), high-frequency (HF) and ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tags, as well as active RFID, real-time location systems (RTLS) and sensor networks—and how they are used in business and consumer applications.
The examination was developed over a period of two years by the RFID Institute and volunteer subject-matter experts. The exam in London will be limited to 20 test takers.
