Getting StartedThere are many different types of RFID—active, passive, UHF, HF—and each is used for different applications. This track will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to determine when to invest in RFID, which technology to use and where to apply it. What You Will Learn From This Track: • Strategies an RFID systems integrator should have in place April 17, 200811:30 am—Breakout Session Ten Questions to Ask Your RFID Systems Integrator It is important for a business to know which questions to ask when deploying a new technology, especially one whose application and capabilities continue to evolve. Early adopters of RFID are ahead of the technology curve, but boundaries are still undefined as people determine all possibilities for RFID. This session will focus on important topics that a business should ask its RFID systems integrator: how will RFID improve the efficiency of my business; how to ensure that your RFID solution leverages your enterprise's investment in Cisco and other IT infrastructures; how will RFID enable me to track assets and equipment quickly; what kind of techniques and support will the integrator do before, during and after the implementation; is a passive or active approach right for me; and more. These questions play a vital role in the decision to implement the technology and affect not only the business, but also the way a company is perceived in the industry. However, item-level tagging provides even more potential than has been seen in the past, with the largest benefits—for both retailers and suppliers—likely to occur on the sales floor. For more than a year, the University of Arkansas’ RFID Research Center has performed numerous lab tests with item-level RFID technology and participated in several pilots. This session will overview the use cases and the outcomes of various tests designed to examine these use cases, both in the lab and in the field. Companies lose returnable assets, have tools stolen from the shop floor or need to track work-in-process. RFID can help, but how do you choose the right type of RFID technology for your company's needs? This session explains the fundamental differences among the various RFID systems, including passive high-frequency and ultrahigh frequency, active, sensor-based and real-time locating systems. You'll learn how and where each type of system is used for different applications, so you can choose the right system for your needs.
