RFID for Government

This one-day preconference seminar is designed specifically for municipal, state and federal government agencies looking to understand how they can employ RFID within their operations to reduce costs and to offer better services. The seminar will provide the security and privacy information agencies need to understand before introducing any RFID applications that might affect consumers or businesses.

RFID Journal LIVE! preconference seminars provide in-depth information on specific aspects of EPC and RFID technologies. Attendees can choose to participate in one of these sessions prior to the opening of the main conference program. Preconference seminars are available through either the Full Conference Pass or Preconference + Exhibit-Only Pass.

How to Use RFID to Create A More Efficient Workplace
RFID has proven to be a tool companies can use to create a more efficient workplace in a variety ways, including reducing the time people spend tracking down files, assets, parts, materials and tools, – from, improving employees ability to identify and serve customers. giving those businesses a competitive edge by creating efficiency and continuity. This session will cover the positive effects on RFID and examples of how one enterprise has created a more efficient workplace and gained a competitive edge.

RFID Use in the US Federal Government
The U.S. General Services Administration is responsible for purchasing goods and services, then supplying them to other federal agencies. Since December 2004, it has supported the efforts of and encouraged other agencies to use RFID to manage personal property and other government assets. This session will explain GSA's policy, exploring how its Federal Acquisition Service is using RFID to support U.S. Department of Defense requirements overseas. Presenters will provide examples of how agencies are using RFID to reduce costs and streamline business processes.

Using RFID to Manage Vehicles and Drivers
The United States Postal Service began using RFID for real-time vehicle location, speed, weight and impact sensing, and driver authentication. The implementation has improved efficiencies and has cut costs with operation and maintenance. In this session hear why the USPS chose PIVMS (Powered Industrial Vehicle Management System) as the solution and what challenges they faced with the ideployment.

How Korea Fosters RFID Development
The Korean central government and local government of Incheon have been cooperating to develop an "RFID cluster" —a center for research, development and manufacturing—in the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) since 2005. Now, the main infrastructure supporting the RFID cluster has been opened. In this session, you will learn how the RFID cluster was created and learn about RFID development projects in the IFEZ and how this cooperation between government and private industry is benefiting Korea.
