RFID Certification Virtual Training Agenda

May 10, 2021

In addition to the agenda, there will also be a series of pre-training sessions in preparation for the training course. We highly encouraged you to attend as many of these pre-training sessions as possible. This virtual certification training builds on the foundation knowledge provided in these pre-training sessions.

As part of the training sessions, participants will also have the ability to conduct hands on exercises to emphasize the concepts covered. We will provide live demonstrations with guidance and videos for following along the labs virtually. The hands-on exercises will be done using the Zebra FX7500 – 2 port and Zebra RFD8500 with 2D imager devices in conjunction with various software applications in preparation for the training. We have assembled this training hardware kit (RFID equipment only) at very low pricing (limited to 1 training kit per attendee). You may purchase the bundle from the following link: https://rfid4ustore.com/rfid-certification-virtual-training-hardware-bundle/Opens in new window and redirects to external site. or bring your own supported hardware.

We recommend you set up your equipment 1 – 2 days prior to the training. We will be publishing a set-up guide as well as QA session for the training attendees to help set-up the hardware. If you are using your own Zebra equipment, you can choose to use other supported models of Zebra hardware as well.

Agenda (NOTE-ALL SESSIONS TAKE PLACE IN EASTERN TIME ZONE)

10:10 AM – 10:20 AM
Introduction

10:10 AM – 10:20 AM
Course Agenda and RFID Professional Institute Certification Exam Review
In this section, attendees will review the agenda for the day including important reminders regarding the RFID Professional Institute Certification Exam.

10:20 AM – 12:00 PM
RFID Technology Review
This section will cover the five main frequencies used by radio frequency identification systems. The instructor will explain the characteristics and capabilities of each frequency, the three primary types of RFID transponders (active, passive and battery-assisted) and the functionality of each. Participants will also learn about tag characteristics and capabilities. We’ll also cover the different types of RFID readers, reader performance characteristics, how to configure various readers. The different types of RFID antennas will be explained and participants will learn about antenna read zones and the characteristics of different types of RF antennas. The instructor will also cover the various peripherals used in RFID systems, including RFID label printers and encoders, motion sensors, electric eyes and other feedback devices. As a benchmark, a summary as well as comparison between RFID and Barcode technologies will also be covered.

12:30 PM – 1:15 PM
RFID Physics
Attendees will review the fundamental physics behind how RFID technology works. Topics covered include basic physics topics and the extension of those fundamentals to concepts such as near field/ far field coupling. As with other sections in the course, during this module attendees will conduct hands on exercises correlating to the RFID Technology Review and RFID Physics.

1:15 PM – 2:00 PM
Protocols and Middleware
This section will cover various protocols including Air Interface Protocols, Tag Data Protocols as well as Reader Protocols. We’ll take a deep dive into the UHF Class 1 Gen 2 standard as well as conduct a hands-on lab that will emphasize the air interface’s memory layout.

2:00 PM – 4:15 PM
RFID Design, Evaluate & Select, Deployment, Testing & Troubleshooting
As with any technology, it’s important understand the lifecycle of an implementation. In this section, we’ll start with the design process for an RFID installation including the concept of a site survey. Following, we’ll cover criteria to evaluate and select various components of a solution. Next, we’ll discuss the deployment process and then how to test and troubleshoot after the installation.
We’ll also conduct a hands-on activity going through optimization after the installation.

4:15 PM – 5:15 PM
Regulations and Standards
During this section, attendees will review the different types of standards that exist in the RFID ecosystem. In addition, we’ll go through various ISO standards and review NFC and related standards. We’ll also cover regulations and mandate in RFID.

5:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Locating, Positioning and Related Technologies to RFID
In this section, we’ll cover locating and positioning system and technologies while reviewing technologies that are related to RFID.

6:00 PM – 6:15 PM
RFID Ecosystem and Providers
Manufacturers, Integrators, Software Suppliers and more! We’ll cover the different hats that companies and providers play in the RFID world.

6:15 PM – 6:45 PM
Review and Conclusion
