PRECONFERENCE SEMINAR

RFID in Warehouse and Inventory Management

Sponsored by
Academia RFID

This one-day preconference seminar will introduce participants to RFID applications in inventory and warehouse management. Presented by Academia RFID, the course will present practical examples of how radio frequency identification realistically enables inventory management best practices. Participants will learn how to quantify the savings and benefits by RFID-enabling warehouse and inventory management operations, and presenters will explain how to build a working RFID portal for automated receiving and inventory tracking.

Seminar presented by Harold Boeck, professor, Université de Sherbrooke
The seminar will be presented by Harold Boeck, a professor at the Université de Sherbrooke who is responsible for the college's Master's Degree e-commerce program. Prof. Boeck is certified RFID+ and SAP, and holds a Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering from the École Polytechnique, specialized in supply chain management. He has worked with companies on a number of real-world RFID implementations.

RFID Journal LIVE! preconference seminars provide in-depth information on specific aspects of EPC and RFID technologies. Attendees can choose to participate in one of these sessions prior to the opening of the main conference program. Preconference seminars are available through All Access, Conference + Preconference or Preconference + Exhibit-Only Pass.

RFID Basics
New to RFID? Here's your opportunity to gain a basic introduction to the fundamentals of RFID. The differences between the various classes of tags will be explained, including active and passive systems. The need for additional IT systems to build upon RFID in real-world applications will be highlighted. The session also includes a very brief overview of the EPCglobal Network, the future of ISO standards, ETSI reader regulations and the latest standardization efforts worldwide. Finally, the relationship between different standards in the area of RFID and EPC, including the latest EPC generation 2 standard, will be presented.

11:30 am

RFID Best Practices for Inventory Management
In these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever to accomplish more with fewer resources. But is it realistically possible to increase customer satisfaction while lowering costs and raising profits? This session will show how leading companies are using RFID to achieve that goal, by providing specific examples of how the technology ties in with inventory management techniques to enable organizations to perform more efficiently.

12:15 pm

Is RFID the Right Choice for My Business?
Radio frequency identification has the potential to be a revolutionary technology, but how can you use it within your own organization? And is RFID better than the old-fashioned, reliable and cost-efficient bar code? This session will outline a methodology used to discover RFID opportunities that have the potential to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and transform your organization.

How to Build Your Own Inventory Management RFID Portal
You've probably seen several RFID demonstrations, so instead of demonstrating a working portal, we'll build one right before your eyes and show how easily you can do it yourself. Our goal will be to help you achieve a working portal within a few days of returning home, so you can test out some inventory management scenarios yourself.

Developing an RFID Business Case and Calculating the ROI
Identifying opportunities within your organization is an important first step, but justifying which opportunity should be seized first can be a daunting task. Find out how to develop an RFID business case and justify the investment, both qualitatively and quantifiably, through the presentation of a real-world case study of inventory moving from a manufacturer through a distributor and down to a retailer.

Developing an RFID Business Case and Getting Your RFID Project Started
This session will present a proven methodology used to discover problems and opportunities that can be addressed with RFID, which has the potential to improve efficiencies and reduce costs, as well as transform a health-care institution. Find out how to quantify and justify the investment, both qualitatively and quantifiably; identify the possible pitfalls and critical factors that will determine the success of your RFID initiative; and gain useful resources necessary to move forward toward adoption.
