Chief Technologist, Intermec Technologies
René Martinez received a Ph.D. degree from Cornell University in 1994 specializing in radio frequency systems and received a Masters degree in 1990 specializing in analog-to-digital conversion. Before graduate school, Martinez worked in Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories as a Staff Scientist, and after graduate school, he began working at IBM Research as a Research Staff Member in 1995 on radio frequency identification, RFID.
In 1998, he joined Intermec Technologies after it acquired IBM’s RFID technology. While working on RFID for over ten years, Martinez managed a team of engineers that developed a full product portfolio of portable, mobile, and fixed RFID readers for U.S., Europe, and Japan. The portfolio includes the first UHF RFID Reader approved by the FCC for Part 15 operation and the first reader compliant with UHF European RFID radio standard, ETSI 302 208.
Martinez has given invited talks at Stanford University, AT&T Bell Laboratories and MIT, and he holds patents in RFID, Wireless Communications, and RADAR.
