Supply Chain/LogisticsLeading-edge companies are improving their supply chains and logistics operations, including warehouse management, by taking advantage of the greater visibility that RFID data provides. In this track, you will hear from some of the companies that have successfully deployed these systems, and learn their best practices.
• How orders are fulfilled by adding a unique RFID tag to each item and sending it through a tunnel in the distribution center, which then issues a delta report of item usage so billing is initiated by running each inbound kit through a different tunnel April 28, 200911:30 am—Breakout Session Kimberly-Clark Reduces Yard-Management Costs After its successful pilot deployment, Kimberly-Clark has moved beyond the evaluation phase and is now employing a passive UHF EPC RFID system for yard management. This session will explain how the company has utilized its existing EPC RFID infrastructure to integrate the RFID EPC solution into its current software platforms, and how it has combined radio frequency identification with data from other technologies. Learn how this system is delivering cost savings and greater efficiencies to Kimberly-Clark. Speaker:Scott Buss, Research Manager, Kimberly-Clark Takeaways:• Why Kimberly-Clark chose a passive tag system for its solution 12:20 pm—Sponsored Sessions Click here to view ALL sessions w/ descriptions from this time slot Learn How to Achieve ROI in Retail Apparel With UHF RFID Sponsored by: NXP Semiconductors NXP's RFID Solutions: Securing Your Data and Assets Sponsored by: NXP Semiconductors Leveraging RFID as a Recovery Strategy Sponsored by: Xterprise "Unclonable" RFIDs - Elevating Trust in RFIDs to a New Level Sponsored by: Verayo Achieving Product Traceability: From Manufacturing Through Distribution to Product in the Hands of End Customers Sponsored by: SAP Using Real-Time Visibility for Efficient Asset Management Sponsored by: CHEP Boeing's RFID Program Sponsored by: RFID Global Solution Learn How Cephalon Is Leveraging RFID to Enhance Shipping Accuracy and Container Traceability Sponsored by: OATSystems, a division of Checkpoint Systems 3:00 pm—Breakout Session How RFID Delivers Shipping Accuracy and Cost Savings DePuy, a division of Johnson & Johnson, receives more than half of its ExpressKit orders to be shipped out on the same day they arrive. Employees had to bar-code-scan each component in each kit twice—sometimes more than 100 per kit—then repack them before shipping. Learn how the company implemented an RFID system that dramatically improved shipping accuracy, shortened the kits’ typical check-in and -out times and made it possible to more accurately bill surgeons for the items they actually use. Speaker:Dave Johnson, Director of Distribution & Logistics (RET), DePuy, a division of Johnson & Johnson Takeaways:• How orders are fulfilled by adding a unique RFID tag to each item and sending it through a tunnel in the distribution center, which then issues a delta report of item usage so billing is initiated by running each inbound kit through a different tunnel 3:50 pm—Breakout Session How UCSD Medical Center Achieved an ROI With an Active RFID Real-Time Location System The University of California San Diego Medical Center lowered its rental costs for mobile medical equipment and improved its overall equipment and maintenance processes by implementing a real-time location system. Learn what the center’s original asset management goals were and how it solved a broad range of process and workflow issues with the technology, including how it managed equipment used in its Incident Command Center during the recent San Diego fire. Speaker:Scott Sullivan, Business Manager, University of California, San Diego Medical Center Takeaways:• RTLS generated a strong return on investment (ROI) by reducing staff time searching for equipment April 29, 200912:00 pm—Sponsored Sessions Click here to view ALL sessions w/ descriptions from this time slot From Factory to Front Door-Closing the Asset Visibility Gap Sponsored by: ODIN RFID Technology in the Supply Chain: Tomorrow's Supply Chain Technology Today Sponsored by: iGPS (Intelligent Global Pooling Systems) The Business Case for Auto-ID Solutions Within Facilities and Throughout the Supply Chain Sponsored by: Savi Technology What You Don't Know About RFID Might Be Hurting Your Business Sponsored by: Motorola Perishables Traceability: Critical for Today's Supply Chains Sponsored by: IBM Oil & Gas RFID Solution Group: Overview of World RFID Deployments in Oil and Gas Sponsored by: Oil & Gas RFID Solution Group Consortium Active RFID Provides Total Asset Visibility in Large-scale Construction Projects Sponsored by: IDENTEC SOLUTIONS AG 1:40 pm—Breakout Session Monitoring and Authenticating High-Value Goods eProvenance, a startup company, recently introduced a service that tracks, authenticates and monitors bottles of wine through the combined use of semi-active and passive RFID tags, as well as specialized ink. This unique method utilizes a temperature-tracking tag placed within each case of wine. In this session, hear how passive tags can be employed to identify and authenticate items, and to link them to particular temperature-tracking tags, as well as to the shippers, distributors or brokers handling them. Speaker:Liz Churchill, Vice President of Solutions, eProvenance Takeaways:• The benefits of allowing supply chain partners to trace an item's chain of custody 2:30 pm—Breakout Session The Next Phase of AIT-enabled Distribution at the DLA By leveraging the supply relationships of its suppliers and customers, using new and exciting technologies, and integrating RFID into more of its logistics footprint and processes, the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) will soon provide improved visibility beyond just receiving. In this session, learn how this capability will deliver improved availability, trust, responsiveness, speed and efficiency within the defense supply chain to support the war effort. Speaker:Mark Lieberman, AIT Program Manager, U.S. Defense Logistics Agency Takeaways:• How existing implementations have demonstrated the value of automatic identification technology in the defense supply chain 3:20 pm—Breakout Session Setting Standards for RFID in the Worldwide Supply Chain
Last December, EPCglobal and several end-user companies began testing the use of the EPC Information Service to track products in cartons, containers and pallets from Tokyo to Amsterdam. In this session, learn how supply chain partners tracked shipments from a third-party logistics provider in Japan to a distribution warehouse in the Netherlands, and how they used EPCIS to store, access and share real-time event data regarding objects moving throughout different points in the supply chain. Speaker:Naotaka Ishizawa, Project Manager of the Technical Strategy Group of MTI, NYK Line Takeaways:• Why Electronic Product Code (EPC) tags were read only by fixed interrogators RFID Journal LIVE! 2009 is produced by RFID Journal, the World's RFID Authority. |
