RFID and Pharmaceutical E-Pedigrees: 2009 Regulatory Compliance Update
The California State Board of Pharmacy has delayed the implementation of its e-pedigree requirement until 2015, but other states are considering new laws that would require the tracking of individual doses of drugs. These regulations put a data-collection burden on drug makers, distributors and retailers. Hear what’s happening at the state and federal levels, and how state pedigree requirements could influence RFID adoption rates.
Speaker:
Virginia Herold, Executive Officer, California Board of Pharmacy
Takeaways:
• Insights into the details of pending regulations to allow for management and adherence
• How to monitor the regulations to stay informed and in compliance

Purdue Pharma Combats Counterfeiting and Diversion with RFID
Purdue Pharma was one of the first companies to implement large-scale item-level tagging. In 2008, its RFID team implemented a third-party RFID solution to accommodate item- and case-level RFID tagging and to aggregate data on products that are not packaged at its RFID-enabled plant. In this session, hear how Purdue is using the data captured on the more than 6 million bottles being tagged annually, and how RFID is helping the company to combat potential counterfeiting and diversion.
Speaker:
Harry Ramsey, Senior Package Development Engineer, Purdue Pharma
Takeaways:
• How Purdue Pharma implemented its OxyContin RFID project
• Using RFID to guarantee patient safety

The Benefits of Using RFID to Monitor the Temperature of Drugs
Abbott Labs recently completed tests intended to prove the efficiency and accuracy of tracking temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products from manufacturing through distribution to an overseas warehouse. This presentation will show how RF temperature monitors and an RF network infrastructure were used to automatically capture data. Learn how the technology compares to existing temperature-monitoring techniques, why Abbott undertook the project, the scope of the work performed and the results.
Speaker:
David Ulrich, Q & A Director, Abbott
Takeaways:
• A comprehensive review of the pilot protocol, as well as the trial runs and locations
• Outcomes, including metrics and successes, along with future recommendations
