Aesculap launches an RTLS solution for Sterile Processing
Apr 25, 2024Sterile containers for healthcare company Aesculap, Inc. has released a new real-time location system (RTLS) known as Aesculap Aicon RTLS, which works with the company’s existing Aesculap Aicon Sterile Container System to improve the efficiency of Sterile Processing Departments (SPD). The company displayed the new technology at the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) conference April 21-23 in Las Vegas, NV.
The RTLS system is designed for use in operating rooms to manage each step of the surgical instrument reprocessing life cycle, for better decision-making and resource management. The solution will help reduce the risk of surgical instrument case delays and errors according to Alan Stout, strategic sales VP, in a press release.
The solution includes Aesculap's sterilizable Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon to capture data related to the status of tagged tool kits or cases, to reduce manual processes and streamline processing workflows. The technology is designed for easy deployment and intuitiveness, according to company officials.
Paragon ID Products Achieve C2 Specification
Technology company Paragon ID has released four new RFID inlays that achieve the C2 specification from Auburn University RFID Lab. Paragon ID provides identification solutions for traceability, brand protection, transportation and smart cities, as well as e-ID and payment applications. C2 Specification indicates an inlay meets specific read sensitivity requirements according to RFID Lab testing.
The Spec C2 standard encompasses non-apparel product categories across household goods, sporting goods, toys, home improvement, health and beauty products.
Thus far only three inlay manufacturers have achieved C2 specification.
Paragon ID’s four new RFID inlays focus on retail, industry and aviation sectors. "Our latest certifications by ARC (RFID Lab), including the groundbreaking C2 specification, validate Paragon ID's position as a leader in RFID innovation," said François Gauthier, Paragon ID’s general manager EMEA and chief industrial and supply chain officer.
Elatec Enables Employee Badge in Apple Wallet
Elatec has announced it is enabling organizations’ employees or tenants to unlock access to buildings, secure areas or devices with a simple tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch. Elatec offers its Mobile Credential Manager software, which works with its universal RFID readers. The readers can capture the NFC-based transmissions from the iOS based devices.
By enabling its employee badge solution in Apple Wallet, the goal is to deliver a convenient and contactless experience for users. Company workers just add the employee badge to their Apple Wallet and hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near an NFC reader to unlock office doors, turnstiles, elevators and key card-protected amenity spaces. In that way they no longer need to open an app on their phone, or present a traditional, plastic access key.
The solution also comes with Express Mode, with which employees do not need to unlock their device to use their badge in Apple Wallet. And if an iPhone needs to be charged, the device can still be used to access an office or other controlled space, using the phone’s power reserve.
Employees set-up the system up through the Elatec Access app while company administrators can manage access permissions remotely.
