New to RFID? Here's your opportunity to gain a basic introduction to the fundamentals of RFID. The differences between the various classes of tags will be explained, including active and passive systems. The need for additional IT systems to build upon RFID in real-world applications will be highlighted. The session also includes a very brief overview of the EPCglobal Network, the future of ISO standards, ETSI reader regulations and the latest standardization efforts worldwide. 1:15 pm | RFID & Privacy in Health Care
Health care providers across Ontario and beyond are adopting new information and communications technologies, including RFID-enabled information systems. RFID technologies offer benefits such as improved operational efficiencies and enhanced health care services, but where such systems involve personal health information, then obligations under the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) may be engaged. Michelle Chibba will present and discuss a forthcoming IPC whitepaper that inventories, classifies and explains the many RFID uses in health care today, whilst also setting out the main privacy considerations. We will also offer privacy and security guidance and appropriate mitigation measures. Speakers:
Fred Carter, Senior Policy & Technology Advisor, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) of Ontario Michelle Chibba, Manager, Policy, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) of Ontario
