UHF Tags on Metal—Optimizing Read Rates in a Tough Environment
Reading UHF-tags on metal is difficult, making data collection a challenge. Vendors have decided numerous special UHF-tags that can be put directly onto metal, but these differ significantly in read range, read rate and pricing. LogDynamics Lab has executed a series of tests in lab-environment and real-world scenarios using different UHF-portal solutions to compare the different applications. He shares the results of his research for the first time.

A Dutch bookseller has tagged all of its books and deployed its first in-store RFID system to help increase efficiency in both their goods receiving and store inventory management. The company is also looking at ways in which the real-time data can help boost customer service and how they can deploy the system to all of its existing 42 stores by 2007.

RFID Is Fit to Track Clothes
International apparel and footwear retailers are moving forward with deploying RFID in the supply chain and in stores. German retailer Kaufhof Warenhaus has tested RFID to track clothes for the past three and a half years ago . The company explains the benefits of using RFID in both their supply chain and in their stores to manage inventory and replenishment. Among the benefits Kaufhof has found is cutting the time it takes to scan the contents of a delivery into inventory by 22 times. Lemmi Fashion, a German children's wear manufacturer, began tagging 100% of its products in 2004, enabling the company to increase its productivity and greatly reducing costs within one year of deployment. This session will highlight how international apparel and footwear retailers are moving forward with deploying RFID in the supply chain and in stores.

Sharing Data in the Food Supply Chain
BT Auto-ID Services, the BT Business Unit dedicated to delivering auto-ID solutions including RFID, has launched its first industry-specific managed service collaborative data exchange. The company hopes its new BT Foodnet service will help pull together data relating to materials and products used in the food industry and share it across the supply chain. The sources of data would be RFID and other auto-identifications systems, whether closed-loop or open-loop. In this session learn how the service is providing detailed information relating to products moving through the supply chain.
