Best Practices for Deploying RFID in Harsh Environments
Deploying a successful RFID solution in harsh environments requires specific knowledge and considerations that can only be gained through extensive field application experience. Omni-ID will share the learnings it has gleaned from deploying millions of tags for some of the largest energy and industrial manufacturing companies in the world. From the Middle East to the North Sea, Omni-ID's expertise has been sought to implement solutions across diverse environments—each with its own set of challenges. From passive RFID to active RFID to utilizing drones, Omni-ID's Ed Nabrotzky will share the experiences gained on the front lines deploying harsh-environment solutions.
Speaker: Ed Nabrotzky, Chief Solutions Officer, Omni-ID

Rugged RFID Systems: A Study in Pictures
When implemented correctly, UHF RFID systems can help engineers and system integrators improve efficiency, tracking and data insights in harsh industrial settings. In this session, presented by Turck, learn how rugged RFID solutions were implemented in a variety of environments and uses, including shipyard personnel tracking, outdoor forklifts, chemical asset tracking, railcar tracking, and pipe/valve component identification in an oil refinery. Each use case will share considerations in choosing the RFID solution, and advantages gained with RFID compared to previous track-and-trace methods.
Speaker: Don Eichman, Product Manager, Fieldbus Technology Division, TURCK
12:20 PM
Choosing the Right RFID Technology for Manufacturing and Harsh Environments
Many companies claim their tags are suitable for harsh environments, but as different as tags are, so are the definitions of "harsh" for various use cases. Standards are difficult to read, however, and tend to show up mostly in the form of strange numbers on datasheets. This presentation will explain the most relevant standards and visualize the test methods associated with each, enabling attendees to better map their needs to datasheet specifications and make the proper tag choice for their particular use cases. This session will also outline the steps that manufacturers must take to choose the right RFID system for a wide array of applications, including tracking parts bins, returnable transport containers, tools, work-in-process, finished goods inventory and much more, while building out an infrastructure for tracking and better managing other assets.
Speaker: Richard Aufreiter, Director, Product Marketing, Identification Technologies, HID Global
