Preconference Seminars

RFID Journal LIVE! 2007 features nine preconference seminars providing in-depth information on specific aspects of RFID. Attendees can choose to participate in one of these prior to the opening of the main conference program. Preconference seminars are available through the Conference + Preconference Pass or the Preconference Seminar + Exhibit-Only Pass. Preconference opportunities include CompTIA RFID+ Certification Fast-Track Training and a co-located RFID Academic Convocation, where attendees can learn about the latest RFID research going on at labs around the world. Attendees can choose to participate in any one of these preconference offerings. To view the full agenda for each, click on the title.

RFID Journal University
The RFID Journal University Preconference Seminar is designed to help attendees who are new to RFID to quickly gain the foundational knowledge needed to engage vendors and begin the adoption processes. The seminar provides an understanding of RFID hardware, different types of RFID systems, and standards and regulation. RFID Journal University also features a live demonstration of physics issues covered during the course.

RFID in Packaging
RFID is going to have a major impact on the packaging industry as suppliers go from tagging shipments to putting tags in primary and secondary packaging. This seminar examines the manufacturing challenges that need to be overcome, the opportunities packaging manufacturers can seize by adding value to their products and the business case for packaging suppliers.

RFID in the Cold Chain
RFID is hot in the cold chain. That’s because it has the potential to deliver major benefits by improving the ability to track fresh produce and frozen goods, and ensure that they are kept at the right temperature as they move through the supply chain. This seminar focuses on the benefits that can be achieved today and the systems that are needed to achieve them.

RFID in the Chemical Industry
The availability and use of industry-driven standards for EPC/RFID that address the specific needs of the chemical industry community is critical. Therefore, EPCglobal North America and RFID Journal announce the first chemical-industry pre-conference seminar. This seminar will engage industry leaders to examine key business issues that can be addressed with EPC/RFID implementations. While the nature of the topics discussed will involve technology, this seminar will focus upon the business opportunities, priorities and challenges of implementing EPC/RFID technology specific to chemical companies.

EPC Essentials
EPC Essentials provides the nuts and bolts of EPC and RFID. This seminar will provide the necessary foundation to understand EPC/RFID and the current details on the progress of the technology. Additionally, EPCglobal North America will provide an update on the global standards activities for EPC/RFID technology. EPC Essentials is highly recommended for both technical and non-technical staff.

RFID Channel Seminar
The RFID Channel Seminar serves to educate value-added resellers, systems integrators, distributors and other channel players who would like to add RFID to their list of auto-ID products and services. Leading vendors in the RFID industry and other experts will explain the keys to developing a successful RFID channel business and address key  issues such as standards and the need for training.

RFID Investors' Forum
Some start-ups are staking out market-leading positions; others are struggling. This seminar provides an overview of the hot RFID sectors, the growth of the industry, and metrics for evaluating possible investments. Leading private RFID companies will discuss the market opportunities they see ahead. This is where venture capitalists network and learn about RFID investment opportunities.

RFID Legal & Public Policy Forum
The actions taken by government agencies could have an impact on the way RFID is used. This seminar, produced in partnership with McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, will educate corporate counsels and business leaders about the potential legal ramifications of their adoption of RFID technology, as well as the potential impact of government adoption and legislation  on their businesses.

RFID Academic Convocation
The RFID Academic Convocation is a collocated event that addresses research issues surrounding the implementation of RFID. It is hosted by the Auto-ID Labs at MIT, and is led by a Conference Committee consisting of RFID research directors who are responsible for the academic integrity of the  proceedings, separate from RFID Journal LIVE! It’s a unique opportunity to learn about research work around the world.

PLUS: CompTIA RFID+™ Certification Program
This fast-track CompTIA RFID+ certification preparation course provides one day of intensive instructor-led training using state-of -the-art RFID equipment, and includes the RFID+ Certification Exam. Attendees receive a CD-ROM with RFID+ practice tests. Those unable to take the exam during the conference and exhibition get a voucher allowing them to take the exam at a later date.
