RFID for IT Service Providers

This one-day preconference seminar is designed specifically for companies that provide information technology consultants and IT hardware, software or services. The aim of this seminar is to educate professionals in the IT sector about how they can add RFID to their current product offerings by understanding the fundamentals of EPC data standards, and how to leverage RFID data. The course will also include information on how to use RFID to track IT assets.

RFID Journal LIVE! preconference seminars provide in-depth information on specific aspects of EPC and RFID technologies. Attendees can choose to participate in one of these sessions prior to the opening of the main conference program. Preconference seminars are available through either the Full Conference Pass or Preconference + Exhibit-Only Pass.

RFID Prevents Theft of High Value Assets
Universidad Regiomontana recently worked on a project to use RFID to stop the theft of laptops and video projectors from its campuses in Monterrey, Mexico.  Hear how the college examined various technological solutions, why it opted for an RFID implementation and specific examples of how the solution continues to save money. In addition, learn how the university took advantage of this technology to track depreciation, license management and maintenance needs automatically.
Roberto Ivon, Director of Technology, Universidad Regiomontana

RFID in the Data Center
Until recently, most companies have had to rely on bar-code labeling or manual formats to track assets in their data centers. These manual processes are time- intensive and costly, and often produce less than desirable results. This session will examine the real challenges of asset tracking in data centers.
Learn about the solutions IBM is piloting at its RFID Centers for Excellence to improve data center and IT asset management, as well as inventory and security processes.

Creating and Hosting an EPC Information Service Solution
IT Service providers can help their customers use EPC data by creating and hosting an EPC Information Service. LOGyCA, a services company associated with GS1 Colombia, did this for GS1 members. Learn what it takes in terms of time, technology and investment dollars to create a hosted solution, and how customers can use such a solution to leverage EPC data and achieve real business benefits.
Leonardo Vitolo, Director of Logistics, LOGyCA
2:30 pm—Preconference
Using RFID Data-Sharing Standards To Create New Applications
RFID is not simply about identifying an object remotely using radio waves. It's about using information about the location of an object, the business process it is undergoing and the state of the object to drive additional efficiencies and business value. In this session, learn how EPC networking standards can be employed to create applications for specific industries, such as health care, chemical manufacturing and logistics.
Stephen Miles, Research Scientist, Auto-ID Labs at MIT

Case Study: SonicWALL Deploys RFID Across Its Supply Chain
SonicWALL, a maker of network security devices and a provider of value-added subscription services, is using RFID to track units as they are manufactured by overseas partners and shipped by a third-party logistics (3PL) provider to warehouse and distribution centers. The system provides real-time visibility of inventory levels at each point of the supply chain, enabling SonicWALL to reduce costs while ensuring it can replenish shipments in a timely way.
Atul Dhablania, VP of Operations and VP of Hardware Engineering, SonicWALL
