RFID Journal LIVE!

RFID for Warehouse and Inventory Management

Sponsored By:
Academia RFID

This one-day preconference seminar will introduce participants to RFID applications in inventory and warehouse management. Presented by Academia RFID, the course will present practical examples of how RFID technologies realistically enable inventory-management best practices. Participants will learn how to quantify savings and benefits by RFID-enabling warehouse- and inventory-management operations, and the presenters will explain how to build a working RFID portal for automated receiving and inventory tracking.

Ygal Bendavid, Ph.D., Professor, University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM)
This seminar will be presented by Ygal Bendavid, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), at the Department of Management & Technology, where he teaches operation management. Dr. Bendavid is the co-founder and academic director of Academia RFID. He holds Master's and Ph.D. degrees in industrial engineering (management of technology) from the the École Polytechnique de Montréal. He has been invited as a speaker for international conferences on technology management and innovation, and has provided various seminars at RFID Journal LIVE! conferences. He is CompTIA RFID+ certified and an RFID PRO instructor.
Eddie Ng, Director of Technical Services, Academia RFID Centre of Excellence
A portion of this seminar will be co-presented by Eddie Ng, Academia RFID's director of technical services. Mr. Ng has worked on numerous RFID software-development projects, and has experience managing the full life cycle of an RFID project, including identifying customer needs, conducting site surveys, analyzing process pain points, designing custom RFID solutions, and configuring and deploying a variety of RFID applications. Mr. Ng is also responsible for leading the research and development activities at Academia RFID's Centre of Excellence, and is responsible for instructing the technical content of the RFID PRO certification program.

RFID Journal LIVE! preconference seminars provide in-depth information regarding specific aspects of EPC and RFID technologies. Attendees can choose to participate in one of these sessions prior to the opening of the main conference program. Preconference seminars are available through an All-Access, Conference + Preconference or Preconference + Exhibit-Only Pass.

RFID Best Practices for Inventory Management
As the economy begins to recover, it is more important than ever to accomplish more with fewer resources. But is it realistically possible to increase customer satisfaction while lowering costs and raising profits? This session will show how leading companies are using RFID to achieve that goal, by providing specific examples of how the technology ties in with inventory-management techniques to enable organizations to redesign their processes and perform more efficiently

Is RFID the Right Choice for Your Business?
Radio frequency identification has the potential to be a revolutionary technology, but how can you use it to gain visibility over your inventory? And which technology would be more appropriate for your specific case? This session will outline a methodology used to discover RFID opportunities that have the potential to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and transform the way you manage and control your warehouse.

How to Build Your Own Inventory-Management RFID Portal
You've probably seen several RFID demos, so instead of demonstrating a working portal, we'll build one right before your eyes, and show how easily you can do it on your end. Our goal will be to help you achieve a working portal within a few days of returning home, so that you can test out some inventory-management scenarios yourself.

Getting Your Project Started and Initiating Your RFID Business Case
This session will present a proven methodology used to discover problems and opportunities that can be addressed with radio frequency identification, a technology that has the potential to improve efficiencies and reduce expenses. Discover how to measure the impact of your supply chain process performance, identify possible pitfalls and determine the success of your RFID initiative, by gaining valuable resources necessary to help you move forward toward adoption.

Developing an RFID Business Case and Calculating the ROI
Identifying opportunities within your warehouse is an important first step, but justifying which opportunity should be seized first can be a daunting task. Find out how to develop an RFID business case and justify your investment, both qualitatively and quantifiably, by using specific key performance indicators (KPIs). The presentation of supply chain management frameworks will help you understand how to document cases in which inventory moves from a manufacturer through a distributor and down to a retailer.
