Omnichannel Enablement: The Tipping Point for RFID

Walmart first went live with RFID in January 2005, but its real journey began in 2003 with a series of pilots at distribution centers. Dr. Bill Hardgrave, the University of Memphis’s president and the founder of the RFID Lab/Research Center—which became the world’s leading center for examining the business value of RFID—will discuss how the industry responded to the retailer’s groundbreaking deployment, and why it resulted in an understanding of the need for collaboration between partners using RFID data. He will share insights about the road taken as an industry, the current state of adoption, and what the future holds for the technology. Dr. Hardgrave will be joined by Matt Alexander, Walmart’s senior director of merchandising innovation, for a fireside chat about how RFID is being successfully used today.

Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain (JJSC) Improves Product Availability for Orthopedic Loaner Sets With RFID

Getting the right products to the right place at the right time is critical to the orthopedic loaner set replenishment process at Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain (JJSC). Orthopedic products are delivered to customers in loaner sets for each individual surgery. A set contains hundreds of products because surgeons don’t know exactly which items they will need until a procedure is underway. A surgeon will utilize some products in the set, then return the unused items to JJSC’s distribution centers for reconciliation and restocking. Although the firm already used RFID to track the complete loaner set, it needed a standard solution that would work throughout the entire supply chain. Learn how JJSC improved the orthopedic loaner set replenishment process while standardizing RFID tagging with GS1 EPC standards. Hear how the time saved because of the deployment has resulted in improved cycle times and product availability.

Using RFID to Bring Down Organized Retail Crime

In this session, Macy’s VP of asset protection operations and strategy will explain how the retail giant uses RFID linked to video to combat organized retail crime and protect its personnel, customers, products, profits and brand.

RFID Journal Award Finalist: BAE Systems Gets Smart with Warehouse Utilization and POU Replenishment

BAE Systems, an international defense, aerospace, and security company, has developed a warehouse management system capable of providing real time storage space utilization metrics for the warehouse management team. The project increases RFID functionality in factories, labs, stockrooms, and warehouse, as well as expanding RFID capabilities to include tracking of assets coming in and out of warehouse, location of storage containers/pallets within the warehouse, and management of storage space. The firm is also piloting smart point of use (POU) solutions and expects to roll out the system to over 12 campuses in several states later in the year. Learn how BAE Systems expects to increase traceability while reducing manual actions. This project is nominated for RFID Journal Award in the category of Best Logistics/Supply Chain RFID Implementation.
